Whatever the occasion, there’s an It Bag!
Where would we be without shoes… but also without handbags!
Or should we say, without THE centrepiece of an outfit. Equally as important as choosing the right pair of shoes, choosing our handbag is often much more complicated. And for good reason too! In addition to having to match our outfit and store all our "must-haves", the sheer amount of choice makes it a real challenge! And even more so this season, where we are spoilt for choice with a plethora of bags vying for our attention: baguette bags, weekend bags, bucket bags, half-moon bags, smartphone bags, tote bags... One thing is for sure, there’s something for everyone this season!
Like Emily in Paris, we can be chic on the streets of Paris, and sport a real gem of a bag on our arm (much more interesting than a boyfriend!): the bucket bag, ideal for carrying all your essentials and being just at home during lunch at the Tuileries as during a dinner on a barge!
From the Mary Poppins It Bag to the Fashion Week It Bag
Like most things in life, there are always two schools of thought: bread roll vs bread bun (or bap in Scotland, don’t worry we haven’t forgotten about you), pencil vs crayon, jug vs carafe... When it comes to bags, we face the same battle! Not necessarily in terms of names, but in terms of use. There's the MP (Mary Poppins) fraternity, for whom the primary use of a handbag is to be a holdall, capable of carrying everything including the kitchen sink, "while being fashionable". Then there’s the FW (Fashion Week) fraternity for whom the It Bag represents an extension of their personality.

The weekend bag, legendary in its own right
A bag which has never really left our sides; one which may have been replaced over the years but never neglected as it is an essential part of us. Being a part of the MP fraternity is certainly practical, since it is not limited to simply holding your purse and the latest red Dior lipstick. It’s great for carrying your sports gear to the office without the need for a second specialised bag, or even for carrying a pair of sneakers if you want to go out on the town after work. And, of course, it remains our best ally for a weekend in the countryside where minimal is the order of the day (and when a cabin bag would be far too bulky)! Finally, let's face it, we're all a bit of a modern-day Mary Poppins, because whether our bag is maxi or mini, we always manage to fit everything we want into our It Bag!
The baguette bag, a sure bet
Neither too small, too big, too bling or too conspicuous, the baguette bag makes a statement! At the same time, when our handbag is literally like a third hand, we need to find the one that is both practical and fashionable. It’s true, we may already have about twenty in our wardrobe, but at the same time, let’s face it, we need one for all occasions: for work, dinner with friends, nights out, a weekend away in the mountains, a summer at the beach... In short, it is clearly not our fault, we’re just adapting to daily life. BUT to avoid a slap on the wrist (by our bank manager), if we had to choose just one for every day, it would definitely be the baguette bag! Neither too chic nor too ghastly, it is pretty much perfect for all the occasions mentioned above. Not bad huh?
Conclusion
Whichever fraternity you might be aligned to, or whether you identify with neither or both, you undoubtedly have a favourite bag that, in your eyes, is THE it-bag. And that’s the point! And if this isn’t the case, it’s high time to fix it...
